I heard a growing trend is for people to retire to college towns where they can volunteer and keep learning new things.  Good idea.

That’s the thing with retirement is for most life gets really boring which leads to an early death.

My experience seeing my parents and grandparents approaching or in retirement and my recent experience with my Uncle committing suicide has formed my retirements plans.

But it is not really retirement. I don’t believe in retirement at all.

Let me explain.

My plans are to work on what I’m passionate about and slowly over time add charity work to it. Then over the years increase the percentage of time I spend on charity work. My predecessor and business systems slowly take more time from me on business to compensation.

You add the charity work by funding causes you love or volunteering your time. And you only do it once you are stable and are able to afford to do it.  Just paying the bills is not stable. You must be doing very well really before contributing to charities. Because you have to take care of yourself first before you can help others. I know some people are going to disagree with this.

I never get to a point where charity work takes up all my time. I’ll always be involved in my business.

With this system you are never bored. You are involved and you contribute to society over many many years.

You’ll avoid the having something to do one day and then nothing the next. So many people retire utterly bored just waiting to die. Life is worth enjoying. If you are not enjoying it then you are not being creative enough, you’re not being passionate about what you do. Change that and this system will create a legacy that will live on forever.

It’s a simple system which is why I know it works.

Richard Branson is doing this. With Virgin Unite he even let’s other via a social network get involved in charity work. A brilliant idea. Over the years his kids will get more and more responsibility in Virgin and Richard will do more and more charity work.

Show Your Customer Some Love: I write my clients thank you notes (snail mail ones) at random times; not just when they’ve bought a service, but when something makes me think about them.  I have a tickler file for all of them with their interests, non business involvements, and when I find an article or news item that relates to them, I send it along.

At a dinner party at a friend’s place last weekend the subject of favorite movies came up.  Out of six people only two people like horror movies.  Us four couldn’t understand why.

Visual and mental images change your life.  So why are horror movies so popular?  I really don’t understand.  I can’t stand horror movies.  All those horrorfing images do have an impact on you.  If you see them enough they can change your life but not for the better.

I’ve accidentally seen a few horror movie scenes on cable TV while running channels (which I don’t do anymore).  “What’s this movie about” goes thru my head and then bam an image that is just utterly disgusting.  I change the channel but I still remember those images.  Why sexual images are considered adult and horror movies are even allowed to exist I have no idea.

Your mind gradually becomes negative if exposed to horror movies, war, depressing situations, etc.  You’ll slow be unable to see positive events, new business opportunities, success or love.

However, if your mind sees success, positive situations and love, you’ll see more success, new business opportunities and love.

So decide to see only positive situations.  Cut out horror movies and the news.  If it’s really important you’ll hear about it.

Sit down once a day and mentally visualize what you want in life.  See it, feel it.

If you can’t see success then nothing will help you.  Nothing I do can help you.  Nothing anyone can do will help you.  You must know you can be positive before anybody can help.

Yesterday I was listening to Paul McCartney.  I’m in an home exchange here in Paris France and they have a bunch of Paul’s albums.  So I’m listening to them and enjoying them.  He writes and sings about love and it fit in very well with our stay here in Paris.

But, I also started thinking about his partnership with Linda.  And how they supported each other.  When Linda had a photo exhibit Paul made sure he came and supported her.  And he didn’t go to promote his current album.  He went as a loving partner.  I imagined him walking up to someone appreciating one of Linda’s photos and striking up a conversation about how good the image is.

And of course Linda supported Paul.  Played in his band when it would have probably been easier to not because of all the negative criticism about her keyboard playing.  I have a live album of Paul’s where they edit him introducing Linda to the audience in many languages.  They were truly in love.

My reflection was deep as I too am very in love.  My partner Nan Akaska is the love of my life.  She is so fantastic that I wouldn’t be able to express it to you adequately.  And when you love your partner you want to support them.

I look at Paul and Linda as role models for how I want to live life.  The people that are in a relationship but don’t talk about their partner because it is “bad for business” and doesn’t fit in with their “marketing plan” just makes no sense to me.  They have a bad business plan.  “It’ll drive away women”  Are you kidding me?  Women know that men look sexier and more attractive when they are with someone.  That type of marketing doesn’t work for me.  And it doesn’t work out with your partner either.  They will feel neglected.  That they are not appreciated.  And men and women can only handle that for so long before it drives them apart.

A balance like Paul and Linda had is essential I believe.  They both had their own projects and some in common.  And they both supported each other in the various projects.  They didn’t hide that they were together and in fact it helped greatly.

If you don’t talk about your partner because of “marketing” or your “business plan” then look at yourself.  Your audience will find you, but will think you’re not completly truthful if they find out later that you are hiding your partner.

So what would Paul and Linda do?  Be yourself and live life to it’s fullest.  I’m going to have a lovely evening with my Nan on the Seine here in Paris France.  Here’s to life.

Who loves accounting? I don’t. Even though I had accounting at the honor level at university and aced it, I don’t love accounting. I don’t like QuickBooks, Quicken or the Microsoft versions, too complicated.  I just need a simple tool to do invoices for parts of my business.

In comes Freshbooks.  It has been a life saver for my company.  I can still be in control of invoices but not have to do accounting.  It takes me a minute, yes a whole minute to do invoices once a week now.  Aren’t tools that you use that take little time just the greatest?  Freshbooks is a fabolous tool.

I’m ever so grateful for everything I have. Most of it inanimate objects. My love for my family and friends. My love for the work (doesn’t seem like work) I do. My love of all the beauty around me. The nice people in my life. And the lovely places I’ve visited.

Here in the U.S.A. a vast majority of the people have a fabulous life. Even the poor have all their needs covered. I know many many people don’t believe this but it’s true. I don’t know how many times I’ve toured homes in poor neighborhoods and they have a bigger T.V. than I have. And then I remember living in The Bahamas and seeing a poor neighborhood. Not even close to what we have here in the states and I’ve seen east St. Louis.

If you can read this you are way and above what a majority of the human race in quality of life. Be grateful for what you have and strive for more. Also help others strive for more.

I’m proud to announce my association with Village Banking. I was out of town with my love Nan and our friend Nat from England. I wanted to show Nat one of my favorite bookstores. I’ve been out of country and traveling alot so I hadn’t seen Joe Vitale’s book “Zero Limits” yet and it was displayed at my favorite bookstore.

I suddenly remembered that I was in it. I quickly looked myself up in the book. I’m on page 101. It felt great seeing my story of how I found my love Nan in print for the world to read about. It’s a great story and I thank Joe for writing letting everyone know about. I also thank Joe for coming out of the closet on his spiritual road. I love your marketing books and I love that you are sharing your spiritual journey. I also believe that they can coexist and in fact think they need to.

Nat in her most English way asked someone else in the bookstore to take a picture of herself with me discussing and holding the book. I felt great as Nat explains to this stranger that I’m in a book and that I’m fantastic. He seemed impressed. Heck, I was impressed after hearing her speech.

All is love. And life is good.

I live by these ideals. Truth, Beauty, Freedom and above all Love.

I know things will work out for the best when I seek and keep the truth, enjoy the beauty around me and within, seek freedom and above all love. I live my life to these and life is fantastic. Life works out for the best.

I’ve seen the movie “Moulin Rouge!” before and after my recent trip to Paris. Seeing it after Paris it seems so vibrant, so true. I saw the real Moulin Rouge in Montmartre quarter of Paris. A very crowed tourist can can show. But the movie is fantastic. The neighborhood reminds me of the bohemian ideal. I loved Montmartre.

All you need is love. Do your business in the name of love. Have relationships with family and friends in the name of love. Do it for love.

People want to do business with you because you love your business. People want to be friends with you because you love your friendship with them.

Love above all.
