Gorilla Grams Story

I’ll admit I’m not the best at judging the size of an audience. Some products I’ve come out with I just do because I was inspired. Looks like Seth Godin agress that the biggest problem of marketers.

The biggest problem marketers make is misjudging their audience. The see the size of the market, but not its true nature: Their accessibility and eagerness. Their worldview and motivation. All too often, we say, “that’s Sales’ job.” And it’s true, a superstar salesperson might very well be able to sell to an audience that doesn’t want to be sold to.

Marketers are guilty of hoping for too much from a typical salesforce. In my experience, 90% of the salespeople out there are below average because performance is a curve, not a line. The superstars are hard to find, hard to keep and hard to count on scaling. So that means you must create a product that doesn’t require a superstar to sell it. And the only way you’re going to sell an ad to a [insert difficult marketplace here] is to create a product/service/story that sells itself.

That is why I love telling the story of about the Prosperity Gorilla. A businessman play a game I write about in my book Prosperity Games. It’s called Prosperity Scramble. He writes down several things he loves on individual pieces of paper and put them face down on the table. He then scrambles them up and randomly turns over two of them. He now thinks up of ideas based on these two words. He flipped over giving away gifts anonymously and gorillas. He loved both of these things.

So he came up with the idea for Gorilla Grams. He gave himself a week and $100 to see if the idea was viable. He tried out a full gorilla suit but found it too hot so he put on a suit and just the head, hands and feet. He then got on a city bus and handed out flyers for him delivering packages, flowers or anything at all. By the end of the week he had more busines than he could handle and he had to start hiring people. Two years later he retires to Hawaii.

Be fast like the Gorilla Gram guy was. Come out quick with and see what the market is like. If it flopped play the game again and try again.

Why you are failing

Last week I had a mastermind member call me the Internet Marketing guru of the group.Â Quite flattering and it made me uncomfortable because I look up to many others as gurus of Internet Marketing.Â Then he called me the guru of websites which I would agree with as I’ve been creating them for 13 or so years more than anyone I know.

My conversation with one of my mastermind members got me thinking why he and other think I’m a guru of Internet Marketing.Â I simply think it is because I actually create products.Â So many people simply don’t do anything at all.Â Period.Â I think I can be successful so I do something and make corrections as I go.Â Ready, Fire, Aim.Â Some people are scared of failing.Â Do it a few times and you get over it.Â I did.

Then I thought of a recent email my girlfriend Nan forwarded to me from Marlon, a successful Internet Marketer.Â I think it clearly reflects why some people are failing.

But dominantly, I’m a producer and a promoter of products.
My job in life is to come up with new products that create
value for my customers and to promote them to the best of
my ability within the time and money constraints I decide
on.

“Marlon, I have SPENT a small fortune. Â I have BEEN in
coaching programs. I have BOUGHT the course. Â How come I’m
NOT making any dough?”

Answer: Â You’re consuming. Â But are you PRODUCING and PROMOTING?
And are you doing it more than ONCE? Â Are you out there playing
the Game every day?

Let me explain…

The problem I see a lot of people have is they consume,
consume, consume. But NEVER cross the bridge to creating,
producing and promoting.

Home exchange in Virginia

I just got back last night from Virginia from an interesting home exchange.

Here is a photography of the mansion from the beach. Six bedrooms, a game room, huge kitchen with double of everything in it, three decks, volleyball court, golfing green, pool, stream room, Jacuzzi indoor tub, and plenty of outdoor fire pits.

It was a nice place but the weather was awful. I got to enjoy one walk on the beach before it turned to frozen windy land. Fortunately I love Jacuzzi and steam rooms so we did our own private hamma several times a day and watched movies on the big screen.

We went to the nearest decent grocery store which was a few miles away called Bloom. Kinda of like Wholefoods. Their slogan is “A different kind of grocery store.” They had some of the funniest signs I’ve ever seen in a store. Here is a photography of the frozen seafood section. They did this for all the sections. New Age drinks was healthy canned drinks. Signs saying “Hey, if this isn’t on your list, it should be.” Breakfast anyone? was the frozen breakfast section. Hot Diggity Dog! was the hot dog section. Oh, Baloney! was the packaged meat section.

They had a good selection of wines. These from South Africa I thought were funny. A giraffe called the tall horse and herding cheetahs, yeah right. But it struck me, their are thousands of wines in this one store. They have to rise above the crowd for us to take notice. These names do just that. So much so I took a photograph and blogged about it. A unique name, slogan or graphic can raise you above the crowd.

Look for way to be seen above the crowd.

I talk about traveling as one of my favorite ways to come up with new ideas in my book Prosperity Games. Travel and write down the ideas you get and bring them back home. And don’t think your house is not good enough to home exchange. The home we stayed in London last year was not even close to being as nice as ours, but it was in London. The Paris apartment we stayed in was nice and big by Paris standards and they didn’t even want to stay in our home, just take care of their cat. And this home exchange in Virginia the house is much bigger and nicer than ours but the home exchangers wanted to see the final four here in San Antonio. If you are able to read this then you probably have a nice enough home to home exchange with. Nan and I are always surprised that people think their home is not good enough. That is a very limiting thought.

After we checked out from the store they have a big sign that said “til next time.” Until next time readers.

Prosperity Games Party in Round Rock Texas

I had another Prosperity Games Dinner Party on Friday. Aimee Rousseau hosted an excellent party. Bob and Dottie facilitated our very well received party. The ideas people came out with were wonderful. I also hate that I can’t share the ideas people come up with but they were all based on what they love.

The party went a little late so the testimonial sheets are being filled out and mailed or emailed in. I did have quite a few people thank me for writing Prosperity Games. They never knew it could be fun to come up with new ideas.

Prosperity Games party at Joe Vitale’s home

Nerissa Oden The Video Queen hosted a Prosperity Games Dinner Party last Friday night. Her partner Joe Vitale, Mindy Audlin, Shawn Audlin, Dorothy Carroll, Penny Stone spent the night with my team. Me, Chris Sherrod, my girlfriend Nan Akasha and Bob Deschner along with his partner Dottie Goodsun facilitated this fun evening of one of my favorite prosperity games called Prosperity Scramble.

People came up with some really great ideas. I wish I could share with you some of the prosperous ideas that everyone came up with but they need time to implement them and share them themselves with the world.
